Gladiators membership for 2010 season

Chester Gladiators have confirmed details of the membership schemes for what promises to be a hugely exciting 2010 season.

All players at junior and senior level must be insured and will therefore be required to become club members prior to playing in any matches and we also offer social memberships to volunteers, parents and supporters.

The running costs of the club are set to rise quite significantly this year so it has been necessary to review our membership pricing. However, we are keen to give our members as much flexibility as possible and now have a much wider choice of membership options.

As always, we remain committed to giving everybody the opportunity to try Rugby League and are happy to discuss a payment instalment plan with our members.

Watch Alfie's debut for Crusaders RL

Crusaders RL are offering Chester Gladiators the chance to watch Gareth Thomas’ Rugby League debut at the bargain price of £8 for adults and £4 for children.

The revitalised Welsh club take on French counterparts Catalans Dragons in a Super League clash on Friday 19th January at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.

Thomas, who won 100 caps for the Welsh Rugby Union national team, switched codes last week and Crusaders RL coach Brian Noble believes the former Cardiff Blues star will be ready to face Catalans.

The Crusaders have already defeated Salford City Reds and Hull FC in 2010 and will be eager to record another home victory against a Dragons outfit known for ferocious defence and hard hitting tackles.

Gladiators ready to return to training

Chester Gladiators are eager to build on a surge of interest in the sport of Rugby League in the Chester and North Wales area as they start their preparations for the 2010 season.

The relocation of Super League club Crusaders RL to Wrexham has raised the sports profile in the region and the Gladiators are opening the doors to potential players, coaches and volunteers to get involved in Rugby League.

The Gladiators, who have been promoted to the Co-Operative Rugby League Conference during the close season, start senior pre-season training on Tuesday 9th March at 8.00 PM at the Kings School on Wrexham Road, Chester and new players are welcome to attend.

“We welcome players of all levels of experience, fitness or ability and many of our members had no experience of Rugby League before joining the club,” said Club Development Officer Paul Foster.

“Rugby League is a fast and exciting game in its own right but it’s also a great way for Rugby Union players to stay fit and develop new skills. We run two senior teams and an U12s side with plans to expand our junior section so it’s a very exciting time for the sport and our club.”

The club, who start the 2010 season with an away match against Mancunians RL on the 8th May, are also seeking new sponsors for their senior and junior teams.

Coaching set-up for 2010 confirmed

Chester Gladiators have confirmed their coaching set-up for the 2010 season.

After a successful 2009 campaign that saw our first team reach the semi-finals of the RL Merit League, everybody connected with the club is extremely excited about what the future holds for Rugby League in Chester.

The first team, who have stepped up to the Co-Operative Rugby League Conference, will be coached by Australian Scotty Hughes and Irish representative Declan Foy. Hughes made a big impression last season and will work alongside Foy who also coaches Chester University and previously spent time as a player with Oldham Roughyeds.

Paul Foster has been named as the new coach of the A team, who will compete in the RL Merit League, while Allen Jones will continue to coach the U12s but will be assisted by Adam Turner. The committee are continuing to prepare for the new season and are looking forward to another successful campaign.

With a scoring system based on real match data including Metres, Carries, Offloads and Tackles you’ll need to know your Rugby League to be a successful manager but with monthly prizes, and the chance to get one over on your Gladiators team mates, it’s worth the effort!

It is free to enter a team and, even though the season is a few weeks old, there is still plenty of time to catch the early leaders ‘Ornets, coached by our Club Development Officer Paul Foster.

At the end of the season we’ll reward the Gladiators Super League Dream Team Champions with a bottle of bubbly!
